World Bank officials meeting at ESADE to learn from Open Innovation projects

Officials from the World Bank and many public decision makers around the world have gathered at ESADE to share and learn from projects involving Open Innovation in the Public Sector.

The approach of the workshop is to engage the participants in hands-on, participatory and real-life case study analysis involving also prototyping and testing of concepts, business models and service designs following Living Labs methodologies.

The main themes that are being addressed are Smart City Models, regarding its different
views depending on various cultures and areas of the world, Civic Engagement as a must for any Smart City initiative, Innovation Ecosystems to mobilize the full potential of
the civic society and Open Data, Big Data, Open Code and Open Hardware.

Participants, ICT directors, Innovation directors, open data platform coordinators,etc. come from places like Medellin, Buenos Aires, Washington, México, Uganda and Ghana, among others.

The Training Program will be held until the 14th of November at ESADE and it will include visits to centers like the Citilab at Cornellà or the Ateneus de Fabricació. The Center for Innovation in Cities at ESADE, lead by professor Esteve Almirall, has hosted the event.

Apps for Europe looks for the best open data apps

Apps for Europe is looking for the best open data applications in Europe to reward the best one with a spot at the International Business Lounge at Future Everything in February 2015. All developers, startups and companies that use open data as a recourse are invited to join the competition.

Last years winner, BikeCityGuide.org, has shown the potential of using open data to enhance their company and expand their services. Since the international Business Lounge at Future Everything last year they were able to reach new cities and raise almost 140.000€ in crowdfunding.

Over the past years many local, regional and national app competitions in Europe have been organized to stimulated developers and companies to build new applications with open data. Apps for Europe has taken it to the next level. By adding Business Lounges to local events we introduce the world of open data development to that of investors, accelerators, incubators and more.

Almost a 100 startups have participated so far in Apps for Europe Business Lounges throughout Europe, where they have met partners like Microsoft, Bethnal Green Ventures, Keiretsu Forum, Wayra, WeGo, Peak Capital, Startup Bootcamp, Startups.be or De Investeerdersclub.

The Apps for Europe competitions will run from September 1st to December 31st 2014, with the finale at Future Everything February 26 and 27 in Manchester (UK).
