The Smart City Expo 2014 has been one of the main meeting points for professionals and academics interested in more efficient, engaging, human and environmentally-friendly cities. And so, ESADE has been there too.
The Center for Innovation in Cities has been the most active academic player, with its director, Esteve Almirall, and its co-director, Mila Gascó, moderating two workshops.
The first one, moderated yesterday by Esteve Almirall, exposed different approaches to transform cities through innovations, from Dubai to Toronto with examples of Peterborough at the UK, Tel Aviv at Israel and Milano, which is preparing a Smart City Expo the next year.
Today, Mila Gascó, CIC’s co-director, moderated a roundtable with 12 experts and officers related to governance, which have explained their approach and experience on applying innovation and technology to improve the city government.
Furthermore, ESADE presence at the Smart City Expo was wider. In fact, one of the main attractions at the expo was DEA-Drones, the start-up created by ESADE ex-students and a professor offering solutions in emergencies through drones equipped with cameras.
Barcelona’s mayor, Xavier Trias, assisted at one of the demonstrations made by the DEA-Drones team and congratulated them, as did the hundreds of people passing by.
