The Center for Innovation in Cities (CIC) of the Institute for Innovation and Knowledge Management (IIK) is hosting its first event on the 14th of July, a workshop titled “Transparency and Open Data at local administrations: Challenges and Opportunities”.
The new center, created by Esteve Almirall and Mila Gascó, will lead research and consultancy on Smart Cities from an Open Innovation approach. The aim is to contribute to define a concept, Smart City, which despite a lack of academic consensus has a huge potential and interest.
In addition to some publications and collaborations, the workshop on Open Data and local administrations will offer some examples of good practices and the experience from its promoters, the catalan municipalities of Gavà and Rubí. These municipalities also participated in the organization of the event, along with Localret collaboration.
Kevin Merritt, founder and CEO of Socrata, the company which has designed the Open Data solutions used by Philadelphia or Chicago, will explain his experience in the United States.
It’ll also include a speech by Mila Gascó, senior researcher at the IIK, and a debate on challenges and difficulties of Open Data based on the experience of its promoters in Gavà and Rubí and moderated by the center’s director, Esteve Almirall.
